Moving nuclear waste to a central depository sounds like a great idea until you learn that the government ships the waste in untested casks with nominal security through the middle of densely-populated metro areas. This website used GIS mapping software to let users plug in a ZIP code and see how close nuclear waste would get to their homes, schools, or workplaces. A dozen U.S. Senators changed their votes on the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste dump after we released this website.
